Germany has engaged in discussions with the Republic of Seychelles to strengthen bilateral cooperation, while advancing its campaign for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council for the 2027–2028 term.
The talks took place during an official meeting between Ambassador Beryl Samson, Acting Principal Secretary at Seychelles’ Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Ambassador Wolfgang Hermann Dodd, Germany’s Special Envoy for the Security Council campaign, in Victoria.
Broad Areas of Cooperation
The discussions focused on several key areas, including:
• Long-standing bilateral relations
• The climate-security nexus
• Issues affecting Small Island Developing States (SIDS)
• Maritime security
• Cooperation in combating drug trafficking
• Capacity building
• Prospects for direct flights between the two countries
Germany’s Priorities
Ambassador Dodd outlined Germany’s priorities should it secure a seat on the Security Council, including:
• Upholding a rules-based international order
• Reforming the United Nations system
• Amplifying the concerns of small island states
• Promoting peaceful dispute resolution
Seychelles’ Support
Ambassador Samson commended Germany’s commitment to multilateralism and constructive dialogue, expressing support for its candidacy and wishing it success in its campaign.
