U.S. President Donald Trump expressed optimism over the possibility of reaching a rapid agreement with Iran that could permanently ease ongoing tensions, stressing that preventing Tehran from obtaining a nuclear weapon remains a top American priority.

Speaking during a campaign event supporting Republican Georgia gubernatorial candidate Burt Jones, Trump said current developments “will end quickly,” emphasizing that Washington’s actions are aimed at ensuring Iran does not acquire nuclear military capabilities.

In a phone interview with Fox News, Trump stated that a memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran could be finalized within “one week,” while describing his outlook on the negotiations as “cautiously optimistic.”

The remarks come amid continued indirect talks between Washington and Tehran, with reports suggesting that both sides are nearing a preliminary framework agreement covering key issues, including Iran’s nuclear program and security in the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most strategic energy corridors.

Earlier, Axios reported that the United States is expecting an Iranian response to the proposed memorandum within the next 48 hours. Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei confirmed that Tehran is still reviewing the American proposal.

At the same time, the Iranian president reiterated that surrendering to “unilateral demands” is impossible, while Iran’s foreign minister continues diplomatic consultations in Beijing amid intensified regional and international efforts.

The latest statements reflect a climate of political caution despite growing indications that a diplomatic window may be opening for a potential de-escalation between Washington and Tehran in the coming days.
