Dubai – Reda Helal:
In a move highlighting the aviation sector’s growing focus on accessibility, Emirates Group has announced the successful rollout of more than 40 travel rehearsal programs designed for children and young adults on the autism spectrum, benefiting over 250 families worldwide.
The initiative aims to ease travel-related anxiety by offering participants a structured, real-life simulation of the airport journey—from check-in and baggage drop to security screening and boarding procedures.
Global Expansion and Partnerships
Following successful pilot programs in Dubai, the initiative has expanded since April 2025 to more than 40 cities, including Cairo, London, Paris, Madrid, Sydney, and Toronto. The program is delivered in close collaboration with airport authorities, security agencies, schools, and autism support centers.
Workforce Readiness
As part of its commitment to inclusive travel, Emirates has trained over 35,000 employees to better assist neurodiverse passengers, ensuring a more supportive and seamless airport experience.
Executive Statement
Sami Aqil Abdullah, Senior Vice President of Airport Services at Emirates, said the program has achieved strong success across six continents, driven by collaboration among stakeholders. He emphasized the airline’s plans to further expand the initiative to reach more destinations and families.
Real-World Impact
The rehearsals provide participants with hands-on exposure to the full travel process, including mock boarding passes, interaction with airline staff, and, in some locations, access to actual aircraft. This approach helps build familiarity, reduce uncertainty, and boost confidence.
Feedback from families, educators, and participants has highlighted the initiative’s meaningful impact, with many describing it as a turning point in overcoming travel fears.
A Broader Accessibility Strategy
Beyond the rehearsal program, Emirates continues to enhance its accessibility offerings, including sensory tools onboard, dedicated digital resources, and autism-friendly travel guides. The airline plans to further expand the program throughout 2026.
